RESTING PLACE
BIÑAN CITY, Laguna – Maria Victoria Reyes, a 3rd year Bachelor of Science in Agriculture student at the University of the Philippines at Los Baños (UPLB), was laid to rest yesterday afternoon. Sixto Reyes, businessman-father of the 19 year-old college student, thanked all those who condoled with them after his daughter was robbed and killed. Reyes described her daughter as a loving person with a dedication to her studies to fulfill her future dreams. A mass was set around 1 p.m. yesterday at the San Vicente Parish Church here before she was laid to rest at the Forest Lake cemetery. He praised Laguna Governor Jeorge “E.R.” Ejercito and City Mayor Marly Alonte Naguiat for the P500,000 reward they raised that resulted in the immediate surrender of the suspect, Benigno Nayle Jr. (Ferdinand F. WORKSHOP
CAMP BGEN OSCAR M. FLORENDO, La Union – A joint Peace and Security Coordinating Council (JPSCC) meeting and workshop was conducted here to institutionalize the unity efforts among the Commission on Elections (Comelec), police, military, and other government agencies in addressing peace and security concerns. Chief Superintendent Franklin Jesus B. Bucayu, regional director who hosted the event emphasized the importance of inter- agency coordination on matters pertaining to peace and security in the region especially that Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan provinces were included in the list of fifteen (15) high risk areas. BARANGAY PLAN
SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna – All barangay chairmen and Sangguniang Barangay members are required to formulate and implement a comprehensive and integrated Annual Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Plan. This was stressed in a memorandum from city local government officer Marciana Brosas. The memorandum was in pursuant to the implementing rules and regulations of R.A. 10121 “An Act Strengthening the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction Management System.” The disaster plan should include pre-disaster plan like training of personnel, purchase of live saving and rescue equipment, supplies and medicines. TOURIST SPOTS
TAYTAY, Rizal – The provincial government has showcased the province's prime tourist destinations at the holding of the Second Rizal Travel Mart at SM Taytay here. Cultural dance presentations, singing competitions, and fashion shows, highlighting the artistry of the people of this province were shown to entice shoppers to come and visit the uniquely designed booths of the local government units and various business establishments that feature their respective tourists destinations. Today ends the five-day travel exhibit which also features the health and wellness tourism through the therapeutic massage being provided by Rizal's persons with disability. (Nel B. Andrade)
MEDICAL MISSION
SAN NARCISO, Quezon – Already at the age of 93, Benito Lacsan has never consulted a doctor for his illness because of he cannot afford it. On Friday, however, he was one of the 523patients treated by a doctor for free. Lacsan, a father of six, expressed gratitude for the missionary doctors who conducted the medical mission through the effort of provincial government’s health program for the indigent residents.
