ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA6) — Out-of-school youth (OSY) and other interested individuals here now have a chance to undergo skills training for gainful employment after the provincial government entered into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Mobile Technology School (MTS) implementers in the province covering skills training on basic arc welding, shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), beauty care, dressmaking, commercial cooking, refrigeration and airconditioning, consumer electronics servicing, furniture and cabinet- making, meat-processing, food technology, electrical installation and computer hardware servicing.
LEYTE INFLATION
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — Leyte inflation rate posted a slight increase of 0.3 percentage point from 3.1 percent in August to 3.4 percent in September this year according to Leyte Provincial Statistics Office officer Wilma A. Parente who added that the inflation rate in the province continued to register slight increases from July 2012 to September 2012. She also said from August to September 2012, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels rose 0.6 percentage points; while food and non-alcoholic beverages rose 0.4 percentage points. As of September, 2012, peso purchasing power in Leyte was maintained at 72 centavos.
AKLAN’S P.P.P.
KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) — Aklan’s peso purchasing power (PPP) has been pegged at P0.75 from September to October of this year, according to the National Statistics Office in Aklan (NSO-Aklan). This means that the Philippine peso today is worth P0.75 in September and October, 2012. Put another way, this means that a basket of goods and services worth P75.00 in 2006 is now worth P100.00 in October 2012. The NSO also reported that the inflation rate for the month of October went down to 4.7 percent from 6.7 percent compared to the same period of last year.
N.S.O. CENSUS
SIQUIJOR (PIA) — The National Statistics Office (NSO) is calling for support for its Agriculture and Fisheries census in February next year. NSO-Siquijor officer-in-charge Leopoldo Alfantra said the census’ accuracy and success lies on the truthfulness of the information provided by respondents including farm operators or those who grow crops, raise livestock or poultry, fishing operators and operators of fishponds, fish cages, fish pens and other aqua farms. A consultative forum was conducted earlier to prepare and inform the public about the census and the usefulness of data to be provided by the agricultural sector.
WILDLIFE MONTH
SILAY CITY, Negros Occidental (PIA) — Silay City joins Negros Occidental province in celebrating "Wildlife Month" in November along with the Provincial Environment Management Office, Negros Forest Ecological Foundation, Philippine Biodiversity Conservation Foundation and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. A biodiversity symposium and animal foot parade was held last November. Topics tackled in said Biodiversity symposium were Philippine Biogeography and Biodiversity, The Relevance of Environmental Law, Biodiversity Conservation Initiatives of the Provincial Government, and Silay’s Biodiversity Conservation Initiatives.
