Von Trapp Children Bring To Manila ‘The Sound Of Music’

Steve O’Neal Productions is bringing over for a series of performances the Von Trapp Children – Justin, Amanda, Melanie and Sofia – formed as the JAMS (an acronym coined from their initials) but are commonly known as The Von Trapp Children. But actually, they’re the great grandchildren of Baron George Ritter von Trapp and his first wife Agathe von Trapp.
The extraordinary story of the real von Trapp family was the basis of the much-loved and record-breaking film of all times, “The Sound of Music.”
The movie tells the story of how Baron Von Trapp, a retired captain of the Austrian Navy, looked for a governess for one of his seven children, Maria, who was a weak child suffering from rheumatic fever. He sought the help of the Reverend Mother of the Abbey who in turn sent Maria to the beautiful Von Trapp country home in the outskirts of Salzburg, Austria.
Maria, who later married the Baron, wrote a book entitled “The Story of the Von Trapp Family Singers” while also detailing her stint and life with the famous family of singers. The book sold well and the film rights were bought by a German producer.
On Dec. 5, the Von Trapp Children will perform at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila. The following day, Dec. 6, they will be at Waterfront Cebu and on Dec. 8, at the Music Museum.
Presenting the show is Steve O’Neal, Hyatt Hotel & Casino, official residence, Philippine Air Lines, official carrier. Sponsors are Duty Free Shoppers, JAC Motors, Hard Rock Café, Lazer Music, Mossimo Music, New Zealand Ice Cream and RJ 100 FM.
Media sponsors are IBC 13, Manila Bulletin, Business World and Telenovela Channel.

‘Underarm Monologues’ Scheduled At Teatrino
Due to insistent demand, Dove Deodorant presented recently a repeat of “The Underarm Monologues” at Teatrino in Greenhills. Inspired by real stories from various women, the play presented funny and witty anecdotes that tackle the daily plights of women and their underarms.
The play was written by Joel Trinidad and Cathy Azanza-Dy who also directed it together with Jenny Jamora. In the cast were Caisa Borromeo, Jenny Jamora and Angela Padilla.
Cindy Melocoton-Manlapaz, Unilver Phils. Marketing Manager for Deodorants and Oral Care, said, “We know that women rarely describe themselves as beautiful, with some body parts even less loved than others. More than half of Filipinas rank their underarms as one of the body parts they are unhappiest about: Being laden with dark spots and chicken skin. We believe that the underarms can be things of beauty too, if only we cared for them more.”
