NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) — Naval in Biliran province will receive the Green Banner Award as outstanding municipality in Region 8 for the effective implementation of nutrition programs, projects, and activities. Mayor Susan Parilla said Naval was chosen to receive the award for the nutrition program implemented by the Regional Nutrition Committee through the regional evaluation team who came over to the municipality for the evaluation of the program in September 2012. Parilla said the effective implementation of such program is a key factor in bringing down the number of malnourished children in the area and improving their nutritional status. Meanwhile, Biliran province, under Governor Gerry Espina, will also receive an award as Best Performing Province in Nutrition in Region 8 likewise for nutrition program implementation. Over the years, a significant reduction in the count of malnourished children in both Naval town and the entire province of Naval has been noted.
MOJON ADOPTION
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources is urging local government officials to support its Philippine Reference System of 1992 (PRS’2) “Adopt a Mojon” Program. DENR-6 Executive Director Adeluisa Siapno said the program engages the participation of LGUs, the private sector and the community, for the establishment and preservation of geodetic monuments to serve as references for geodetic surveys. She said that as prime implementers of the PRS’92, the DENR is undertaking a massive information drive and survey and data integration to further ensure the accomplishment of a unified reference system. Local government units (LGUs) serve as adopters of the nationwide network of geodetic control points, physically marked by the mojons, because of their competence and proximity to safeguard this, Siapno said.
