Batangas provincial disaster risk reduction and management office (PDRRMO) chief Lito Castro said they have identified the evacuation centers where overcrowding is a problem. Among the overcrowded centers is located in Batangas City.
"Last night , we transferred several families from Batangas City to the municipality of Taysan and the decongestion is still on-going," Castro said.
As of 12 noon Monday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said 46,747 families or 182,061 individuals were being served in 416 evacuation centers in the provinces of Batangas, Cavite and Laguna.
In Batangas City alone, 12,385 individuals were temporarily sheltered in 34 evacuation centers, which means that an average of 364 individuals are staying in one evacuation center.
Officials were also addressing the needfor additional portable toilets for the evacuees.
He said portable toilets from donors are expected to arrive by Wednesday.
In peril
Meanwhile, despite being sheltered in an evacuation center, hundreds of residents displaced by Taal volcano's continuing unrest are still prone to danger as a temporary shelter in Balete town is found to be located within the 14-kilometer radius danger zone.
NDRRMC Assistant Secretary Casiano Monilla said the single evacuation center in Balete was located within the 14-km danger zone.
The NDRRMC said 64 families or 263 individuals were being served in the lone single evacuation center in Balete as of 12 noon Monday.
A lockdown was earlier implemented in 14 areas in two Batangas cities prohibiting residents to go back to their houses as the threat of Taal's sudden eruption remains.
"Out of the 416 evacuation centers, all of these are located outside the 14-km danger zoneexcept for Balete based on our plotting," Monilla said.
Monilla said officials were already trying to look for other evacuation centers where the affected residents could transfer.
"We are ding something about it," he said.
