CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — At least 11 barangays in this city are expected to join in the 2012 Giant Lantern Festival which slated on December 15 held at Pampanga Robinsons Starmills. All participants came from barangays of Sta. Lucia, Calulut, Del Carmen, Del Pilar, Dolores, San Jose, San Juan, San Nicolas, San Pedro Cutud, Sto. Niño, and Telabastagan. Designer Eric Quiwa of Sta. Lucia promised to give the people “a burst of color” on the night of the festival while Del Pilar lantern-maker Raner Deveraturda disclosed that their entry this year has 9,000 bulbs. City Administrator Fer Caylo said that each giant lantern contestant will spend around to P300,000 to P500,000. (Franco G. Regala)

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — Some 3,500 members of the Community Health Teams (CHTs) attended yesterday’s general assembly for the year 2012 at the Capitol, here, with Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado gracing the occasion to deliver his advocacy: “Prevention (of diseases) is better than cure.” Alvarado recognized the efforts of the CHTs for their critical role in implementing the health projects of the Provincial Health Office. He said the role of CHTs is not only to provide cures but alleviate the progression of illness. In supporting the governor’s statement, Provincial Public Health Officer Jocelyn Gomez said CHTs must do their best in giving information and guidance to those who want to access health services. MARIVELES, Bataan — Mayor Jesse I. Concepcion exhorted yesterday all heads and staff of the municipal government to draw inspiration from the multiple awards the local government had received over the years to improve their service to the public. Concepcion cited the municipality’s being adjudged the “Most Child Friendly” in the regional level this year and the awarding of Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Secretary Remedios Dampil-Timenia as the Best SB Secretary in Bataan at the Philippine Councilors’ League (PCL) Meeting held recently. ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — Tourists, both local and foreign, including pilgrims who will visit the city starting today should expect uniformed policemen and so-called “force multipliers” – civilian volunteers for maintaining peace and order – to be more visible in the streets in time for the city’s fiesta celebration this month. Supt. Ericson Dilag, chief of police, assured public security for the feast day activities in honor of the Our Lady of the Immaculate Concepcion, here. There will be a cultural parade, the marching band competition in the morning; the drum and lyre competition among schools in the afternoon; and the serenata or the band exhibition in the evening.
