CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga -- Two members of the New People's Army (NPA), including a former vice mayor of Aurora province involved in extortion activities were arrested after a shootout during an entrapment operation in Tarlac City.

Caught were Gregorio Agustin, 49, former Vice Mayor of Dilasag, Aurora, resident of Brgy Jaglan, Dilasag, Aurora and Edmond De Leon alias Ka Adan, 38, resident of Briones Street, Brgy Poblacion, Dilasag, Aurora, according to reports received at the office of the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3).
He said that another member, Raymond Dulinayan alias Maximo has managed to elude arrest.
Initial report said it was around 2:50 p.m of July 25 when operatives of CIDG ATCU-Camp Crame, Tarlac City PS, Tarlac Provincial Mobile Force Company, Lapaz MPS and CIDG-Tarlac conducted entrapment operation along Tarlac-to-Sta. Rosa road, Brgy Balingcanaway, Tarlac City. The operation resulted in a shootout and the arrest of the suspects.
Corpus said that the operation stemmed from the report of their victim, businessman Albert Acosta, nephew of suspect Agustin, that the suspects allegedly demanded revolutionary tax amounting to P1.5M through an extortion letter and SMS for the protection of his business.
Further investigation revealed that Agustin and De Leon were affiliated with Isabelo Corpuz Command Front 41, New People’s Army (NPA).
