MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte (PIA) — It was a pleasant surprise for security guards of Mandaue City-based Probe Security Agency, Inc. serving at Metro-Hyper, this city when last December 20, a number of them received over R12,000 in individual checks from Probe corresponding to payment of their regular and special holidays and overtime pay, from July 5 to October 31 this year. “We found underpayment of overtime and non-payment of holiday premium pay for four holidays in their payroll from July to October, 2012,” said Neil Moraleta, the DOLE inspector who conducted the random inspection. Greg Yu and Philip Palen, Legal and Supervisor personnel of Probe Security Agency, respectively, paid a total of R296,566 at the DOLE office, he said.

VISAYAS CONFERENCE 

TALISAY CITY, Negros Occidental (PIA) — Talisay City recently hosted some 150 Information Officers from all over the region, for the Visayas Information Officers’ Year-End Conference and Awards at the Nature’s Village and Resort. Talisay City Promotions Officer Felix Hiballes, who represented Mayor Eric Saratan, said such activities provide chances for people from other regions to know what Talisay offers. “This can expedite the growth of local tourism and a major leap for the city which boosts creative tourism and economic resources,” he said adding that the holding of the activity shows there’s so much more in Talisay than just being the home of the province’s sweetest lanzones as well as having one of the most fascinating ruins in the world.

FREEDOM DAY

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — The 68th anniversary of the Liberation of Capiz and Capiz Veterans Memorial Day (CVMD) 2012 was marked by a medical mission for Capiceño World War II (WWII) veterans and their dependents. The Philippine Army's 3rd Infantry Division's (3ID based here) band and “firing detail” were also invited to commemorate the patriotism and victory of the Capiceño guerillas against the Japanese Imperial Forces. "It was on Dec. 20, 1944 that Capiz was liberated from the Japanese Imperial Forces by Capiceño guerrillas belonging to the 6th Military District that conducted a simultaneous attack of the Japanese garrisons at the Provincial Capitol, Capiz National High School and Roxas City water tank (now Ang Panubli-on Museum),” said Lipardo.

BETTER YIELD

CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar (PIA) — The newly rehabilitated Communal Irrigation System (CIS) project in Barangay Patag-Tabucan, Paranas, Samar is expected to boost rice production, supplying as it does water to some 70 hectares of rice land. The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Western Samar OIC Engr Rizalina Gallarde together with Paranas Mayor Felix Babalcon and 2nd District Board Member Eunice Babalcon recently led the turn-over Ceremony held at Barangay Patag, Paranas, Samar.

AIDING SURVIVORS 

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PNA) — The Rotary International Zone 1 composed of various Rotary Clubs in Cebu has partnered with GMA Foundation in the campaign for relief goods for survivors of typhoon "Pablo" in Cateel, Davao Oriental. Rotary District 3860 Disaster Coordinator Wilton Uykingtian said they designated the Cebu Grand Hotel grounds as drop-off point for donations.
