Production Of Lexus LFA Ends

December 27, 2012, 2:11pm

The last unit of Lexus’ supercar, the LFA, rolled off the production line in Japan last week at its Motomachi plant in Japan.

Exactly two years after Lexus started making the LFA, the 500-unit run was finally reached last Dec. 14, signaling the end of its limited production.

A total of 170 workers were handpicked to handle parts manufacturing, assembly and painting for the LFA project. One LFA unit was produced per every working day.

The last unit that rolled off the line was a white LFA clad in the special “Nurburgring” package.

“I’ve lived and breathed supercars for the past decade,” said Haruhiko Tanahashi, the LFA’s chief engineer. “Specifically one supercar, the LFA. Very few people have the opportunity we had: to create a world-class supercar from a blank sheet of paper.”

Lexus designers disclosed that everything learned from the LFA’s construction including its use of in-house-built carbon fiber reinforced plastic, may be incorporated into future products for the brand.
