KALINGA COORDINATORS
TABUK CITY, Kalinga (PIA) — Eight municipal coordinators were designated by their respective mayors to coordinate science and technology projects that will be supported this year by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). Alfonso Berto, Kalinga provincial DOST officer, said municipal planning and development coordinators (MPDC) were assigned for the job since their offices are involved in planning. “This involves the preparation of community-based project proposals that are in line with DOST’s mandate so the need for the expertise of local development planners,” he said, adding that the designated coordinators were already oriented in December, 2012 after which eight proposals were submitted for review and approval. “Those feasible and viable proposals will be recommended for DOST for funding this year,” he said.
IFUGAO SPORTSFEST
LAGAWE, Ifugao (PIA) — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) family here recently held the first Provincial Director’s Cup and sportsfest last week with the theme, “Fostering Camaraderie through Sports” at Camp Joaquin Dunuan here. DILG provincial staff, members of the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP), and the Bureau of Jail and Management Penology (BJMP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) participated in the one-day event. Soldiers from the 86th Infantry Battalion (IB) also joined the sportsfest.
BEEKEEPING GRADS
TAGUDIN, Ilocos Sur (PIA) — Sixteen persons graduated from a beekeeping training course in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur recently, said Dr. Apolonio Sito, Director of the National Agriculture Research and Training Development Institute here. The objectives of the training were to provide basic training and skills for beekeeping as a farming system component, introduction of beekeeping to conserve and protect the environment; introduce honeybee products to enrich nutritional food value and cash income for the people in the community; and create employment in the community.
E.N.R.O.S. LAUDED
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources — Region 2 (DENR- 2) recently commended some Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices (Cenros) in Cagayan for exceeding targets in the national greening project. Forester Nilda Reguelos said five local government units, namely, Alcala, Aparri, Sanchez Mira, Solana, and Tuguegarao City contributed much to the program for planting 1.7 million trees in some 2,000 hectares of barren land.
SUMULONG ANNIVERSARY
ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal (PIA) — Antipolo City recently commemorated the 138th birth anniversary of Don Juan Sumulong through a short program honoring the Antipolo locals. The ceremony at the Antipolo City Hall was led by Mayor Nilo Leyble, Lorenzo Juan Sumulong, and Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose Peping Cojuangco, whose late mother was a Sumulong, among other officials. Don Juan Sumulong was born December 27, 1875 and was a politician considered as the Brain of the Opposition during the early 1900s. According to the LGU, the city’s leaders has been following the vision of Sumulong which has contributed greatly to the progress and development of the city.
