According to partial and unofficial tally of votes as of 6:14 a.m., the 29-year-old Sotto, who got 201,028 votes, lived up to his campaign slogan “Iba Naman” by leading the race against incumbent mayor Bobby Eusebio who only got 116,414 of the total votes.
Roman Romulo is set to return to the political scene after having the biggest lead in the congressional race for the city’s lone district.
Romulo garnered 216,202 votes, surpassing the 94,362 votes of incumbent Cong. Ricky Eusebio by a landslide.
For the vice mayoralty post, unopposed incumbent Bernardo Caruncho of Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) will retain his seat with 243,586 votes, according to the partial and unofficial results released around midnight.
The immediate proclamation of the winners is pending as the Commission on Elections regional office still has to release its decision on lowering the threshold of the proclamation.
The Board reconvened around 5:58 a.m.
Family, friends, and supporters of Sotto and Romulo, as well as the media waited for four hours for the supposed proclamation but as of press time, no proclamation was held
The City Board of Canvassers said it will have a recess and reconvene around 1 p.m. or earlier, depending on the release time of the decision for the request to lower the threshold of proclamation.
Sotto said he would wait for the decision with his supporters at the City Hall.
“Hindi ako aalis sa seventh floor na ito ng City Hall hangga’t di kami na pro-proclaim ni Cong. Roman Romulo,” Sotto said.
Sotto is seeking an explanation on why the approval of the decision has not been released yet despite their lead.
“I hope that they can explain. We’re just asking for an explanation from Comelec. We don’t care if it comes from Pasig Comelec, or the regional office or the national Comelec, basta merong mag explain sa amin kung bakit natagalan,” Sotto said. #MatalinongBoto2019
