CAPIZ RUN
ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Registration is ongoing at the Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-Capiz Chapter for the second Million Volunteer Run (MVR) on February 10 here. The simultaneous nationwide event dubbed “Run To Save Lives” will be participated by local government units, schools, media organizations, civic clubs and private groups, among others. “Eleven LGUs have already confirmed their participation to the event,” said PRC – Capiz administrator Nelia Cartujano. The early morning activity will start at the Roxas City Public Plaza and will end at People’s Park in Barangay Baybay here. Registration fee is P100 for each runner. (PIA)
BOHOLANO BET
CORTES, Bohol — A Boholano is among the 83 candidates who have thrown their hats to the senatorial race. Severo Maluenda Jr, born in Loon and residing in Nahawan, Clarin, according to records from the Commission on Elections (Comelec), is seeking a seat in the Senate. Maluenda is an agriculturist who was born on January 22, 1936 and is married to Germilina Maluenda. Comelec records revealed that of the 85 senatoriables, 16 are women, including former senators, representatives and politicians. (PIA)
P.N.P. CHIEF TO VISIT E.V.
CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar — Director General Allan Purisima, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, is set to visit Eastern Visayas tomorrow. During the visit, Chief Superintendent Elmer R. Soria, regional director, will showcase the PNP’s accomplishments in dismantling private armed groups in Samar. Soria earlier announced the creation of the Regional Special Operations Task Group (RSOTG) that would focus on the campaign against Partisan Armed Groups (PAGs) operating in Samar province. The PNP is also taking pride of the conduct of peace covenant signing in Samar on January 13 at the Saints Peter and Paul cathedral in Calbayog where all provincial candidates showed up support a “secure and fair elections” in Eastern Visayas. DEV’T PROJECTS
CATARMAN, Northern Samar — Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas promised to fund development projects particularly infrastructure projects in the province of Northern Samar during his visit to Catarman on January 13. In an ambush interview, Roxas said the board of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) has approved funds for the circumferential road that will connect the province to some parts of Eastern Samar. The road will pass through the municipalities of Palapag, Mapanas, Gamay and Lapinig, Northern Samar, and Arteche and San Policarpio of Eastern Samar. (PIA)
B.I.R. TARGET
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) or Revenue District 14 of Eastern Visayas has reported that the revenue collecting office has surpassed last year’s target collection of P4.5 billion by more than P212 million. Arsenia Gente, BIR collection division chief, declared that the regional BIR office attained the target collection set by their national office and that the attained figure is tentative as it still might change pending the finalizing of report from the two remaining revenue districts. Gente revealed that among the revenue district offices (RDOs) in the region, the Tacloban RDO topped with the highest collection rate while the Maasin RDO failed to meet its target collection due to lesser government projects implemented in the province of Southern Leyte.
