TEXT2TEACH PROGRAM

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA 6) – Some 116 public elementary schools here are expected to be benefited by the Text2teach program which is aimed at improving the quality of teaching English, Math, Science, and Values Education. Text2Teach Visayas Ayala Foundation, Inc.  Manager Dino Rey C. Abellanosa said  Text2teach employs a full cellular platform using a 3G-enabled device like the Nokia N 701 mobile phone equipped with an application called Nokia Education Delivery or NED. NED allows teachers to download educational videos on Math, Science, English and Values specifically created for the project, providing a highly effective visual aid for teachers and creating an interactive, student-focused learning environment in the classroom. The Antique provincial government gave Text2Teach P5,352,400.00 as  counterpart for implementing the program in the province.

KABANKALAN PAG-IBIG

KABANKALAN, Negros Occ. (PIA) - The country’s affordable shelter financing agency will be able to serve better its 27,000 members in the southern part of the province with the opening of its Kabankalan Service Office last January 21. Office site is at the Kabankalan Farmers Center, Rizal St. beside the Kabankalan Water District and will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. Establishment of the service office was made possible through a memorandum of agreement with the city government of Kabankalan represented by Mayor Isidro P. Zayco.

SINULOG TRASH

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PNA) - Street sweepers from Cebu City's Department of Public Services (DPS) removed some 200 tons of trash left by some 4 million Sinulog revelers before sunrise yesterday, Monday, January 21. DPS chief Engr. Dionisio Gualiza said all of the city's available 10-wheeler dump trucks and payloaders were used to hasten garbage collection after the grand Sinulog parade Sunday. He said barangay officials also deployed all garbage and dump trucks to the streets, particularly along the parade route, as soon as the roads are opened.

MATERNAL CARE

BORONGAN CITY, Eastern Samar (PIA) – Over 200 health workers from different towns in this province are undergoing further training-orientation on maternal and child health care. Funded by the Department of Health (DOH) under its RN-Heals Program, 166 nurses and 41 midwives will be deployed to hard-to-reach barangays to serve those with barely any access to better health care and services. Department of Health representative Dr. Jean Egargo said the trained health workers will become local health supervisors in each barangay’s Community Health Teams (CHT) with the assistance of trained barangay health workers (BHWs).

AGENCIES DEPUTIZED

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) regional office 8 in Tacloban City led in deputizing government agencies to augment the poll body’s forces in ensuring the conduct of peaceful May 13, 2013 midterm elections here. Comelec regional director Jose Nick A. Mendros said such deputizing is expected considering the agency does not only lack manpower, but also resources and it needs to tap the expertise and resources of other government agencies in ensuring the success of the elections.
