TANAY, Rizal — Local residents, including local officials, and representatives from the private sector, are expected to join in today’s parade in celebration of the town fiesta in honor of their patron saints – San Ildefonso and Our Lady of Guadalupe. With the theme “Sama-Samang Pasasalamat at Pagdiriwang,” the parade will gather representatives coming from the Catholic Church, the local government, students, and from the private sector, said Joicee Gapido of the office of the mayor. Parade participants, wearing colorful costumes made of indigenous and eco-friendly materials, will showcase the town’s pro-environment efforts. (Nel Andrade)

TRECE MARTIRES CITY — The Sangguniang Panglalawigan (SP) has approved an ordinance enacting the Revised Children's Code, which will widen the scope of assistance and care for minor children, particularly the needy, in the province of Cavite in terms of development and social well-being. The benchmark ordinance was passed by Vice Governor Recto M. Cantimbuhan and all the 17 Board Members on its third and final reading during the 113th session last Monday. Cavite was the first province in the country that has approved the Revised Children's Code as called for by the national government. (Anthony Giron)

OLONGAPO CITY — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Zambales Field Office ordered the Hanjin Heavy Industries Corporation-Philippines (HHIC-Phil) to pay P650,000 worth of overtime claims of 177 security guards. The Single Entry Approach (SENA), a branch of the DOLE, lead the investigation and hearing of the case between the company and the security guards on January 15, or 10 days after the security guards filed a request for assistance for a voluntary settlement. According to DOLE Regional Director Raymundo Agravante, the investigation was led by SENA Zambales chief Efren Reyes. (Jonas Reyes)

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — Former Senator Ramon Magsaysay Jr., in his message during the commemoration of the 114th anniversary of the First Philippine Republic held at the historic Barasoain church here yesterday, urged not only Bulakenyos but all Filipinos to remember the lessons of the First Philippine Republic and feel proud. “Look back, learn, and feel proud of our hard-earned freedom,” he said. “I was five years old then when my father brought me here. He was with General Aguinaldo, right at this patio, and he was talking with the first president of the Philippine Republic,” Magsaysay said. (Freddie Velez)

ANTIPOLO CITY – The city government’s livelihood assistance to persons with disability (PWDs) continues with the renewal of the permit for the free use of the gazebo at the city’s promenade park to be the PWDs sector’s massage service area for their customers. Vivian Mercader and Rose Bio, leaders of the Antipolo PWD Massage Therapists group, said Mayor Danilo Leyble has granted them a new permit for their massage service activities at the gazebo fronting the Antipolo Cathedral. Mercader, an orthopedically-impaired massage therapist told the Manila Bulletin that they are grateful to Honnie Jocson who helped them get the permit0 (Nel Andrade).
