By Martin Sadongdong A retired police officer was arrested by the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) after lawmen confiscated from his possession several unlicensed firearms, ammunition and explosive in his house in Caloocan City Monday. (PIXABAY / MANILA BULLETIN) (PIXABAY / MANILA BULLETIN) NCRPO Director Guillermo Eleazar identified the suspect as retired Police Officer 3 German Riogelon alias "Jun Muslim" and "Boy Muslim," 56, of Pangarap Village, Barangay 181, Caloocan City. As a cop at the Caloocan City Police, he faced several charges including robbery extortion, unlawful arrest and arbitrary detention. Riogelon was collared by elements of NCRPO's Regional Special Operations Unit (RSOU) around 5 a.m. in his house when they served a search warrant issued by Judge Raymundo Vallega, second vice executive judge at Regional Trial Court Branch 130 in Caloocan City. Eleazar said that when the cops arrived at Riogelon's house, the suspect's live-in partner, Analiza Acta, claimed her husband was not in their house and denied the authorities from entering the house. However, the cops still implemented the search warrant and found out that Riogelon was just hiding inside the house. Police found during the search an M16 rifle, two caliber 45 pistols, a caliber 38 revolver, a hand grenade and various ammunition. When asked for the documents of the seized guns, Riogelon couldn't present any. The NCRPO suspects that the seized items are being used by Riogelon in maintaining an illegal gambling den. According to Eleazar, Riogelon retired in June 2018 and they are conducting a follow-up investigation to determine whether he is trying to build a private armed group (PAG) which could be used in the forthcoming 2019 midterm elections. Riogelon was brought to Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City where he will be facing charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition and RA 9516 for illegal possession of explosives. The NCRPO chief also ordered an investigation on the possible link of Riogelon to a dismissed and active police officer who allegedly give support and protection to the suspect. Late last month, the Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) arrested five alleged members of the Peralta kidnap-for-ransom group operating in Northern and Central Luzon. Meanwhile, the Calabarzon Police Regional Office (PRO-4A) killed over the weekend three alleged members of Alvero Drug Syndicate operating in San Pablo, Laguna. PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said the neutralized organized crime groups (OCGs) were serving as private armed groups (PAGs) for several politicians. He added that the killing or arrrest of the OCGs would lessen possible election-related violence in next year's elections.
