PILAR, Bataan – With its strategic location, and readiness for further development, this town is expected be the next economic center in the province of Bataan, while police authorities continued their anti-criminality campaign to maintain the momentum of peace here. Senior Inspector Dennis Orbista, former Police Community Relations officer of the Bataan Philippine National Police, who was designated as the new chief of police of this fast-growing town, said that there is no more problem with peace and order here, but “we will continue to be vigilant for the protection of the public and the traders here.” (Mar Supnad)
ANTIPOLO FALLS
ANTIPOLO CITY – The city government here continues to urge residents living near the famous Hinulugang Taktak to observe discipline at all times in their quest to bring back the old glory of the once famous waterfalls here. This developed after city government personnel spearheaded by the City Environment and Waste Management Office have collected more than 30 sacks of garbage during a recent clean-up drive along the Calocob River, a water system leading to the Hinulugang Taktak. The “Linis Creek Operation” of City Hall employees is a regular monthly activity of the city government as part of its clean-up drive. (Nel Andrade)
MEAT PROCESSING
SARIAYA, Quezon – The National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) has certified that this town’s slaughter house is categorized as Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), with a Double “A” accreditation. Sariaya Mayor Rosauro “Boyet” V. Masilang said that GMP is a system being applied and practiced also in other countries like the United States, Australia, Canada, Japan, Singapore, and in other Asian countries. He said the town’s slaughter house strictly implements the Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures by using a high technology system that assures that the meats being processed are free from contamination as stipulated under the NMIS guidelines. NEW SUPERVISOR
TRECE MARTIRES CITY – Lawyer Juanito V. Ravanzo Jr. was replaced as Provincial Commission on Elections (Comelec) supervisor last Tuesday, it was learned yesterday. The Comelec designated lawyer Ruben Anievas in lieu of Ravanzo. The replacement has something to do with the “rotation” being done by the poll body during election year, it was gathered. Ravanzo and Anievas have virtually swapped their positions with the “rotation” being implemented. Ravanzo took over the position of Anievas as Rizal Provincial Comelec supervisor effective Tuesday, while Ravanzo has been named Cavite Comelec supervisor for 17 consecutive years, starting 1996. PHIVOLCS ADVISORY
SINAIT, Ilocos Sur – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) had lifted the declared tsunami alert level 1 in Ilocos Norte, and 18 other towns in the country following the 8.0 magnitude earthquake that occurred on Santa Cruz Islands at 5:24 a.m. Wednesday. At about 12 noon Wednesday, Phivolcs Director Renato U. Solidum had lifted the tsunami warning following the removal of alert levels issued by the international tsunami warning centers. However, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council remains on heightened alert as the agency is expecting aftershocks caused by the quake. (Freddie Lazaro)
