Comelec to publish party-list groups, nominees ahead of 2019 midterm polls

The move, she said aims to help voters make informed choices. "So that the voters would know in advance the party-lists and nominees and can make informed choices on which party-list to vote for,” said Guanzon. To note, 185 party-list groups recently filed their certificates of nomination and acceptance or their list of nominees. Poll watchdog group Kontra Daya, meantime, welcomed the move. The group said the announcement of Guanzon is consistent with their call on October 19 to make public pertinent information on party-list groups. “May this be the start of the Comelec's resolve to ensure that the rich and powerful do not make a mockery of the party-list system,” Kontra Daya said in their Twitter account @kontradaya. Kontra Daya earlier said more and more political dynasties and vested interests have joined the party-list race five years after the Supreme Court opened the party-list system to nominees who need not belong to the marginalized and underrepresented sectors they claim to represent. Based on their initial research, many of the more than 180 party-list groups in the May 2019 elections may be classified as those with links to political dynasties or officials already elected in other positions; those representing special business interests; and those with questionable advocacy and nominees.
