Three ranking officials charged for gross neglect of duty -- PhilHealth

By Analou De Vera The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) said that it has filed administrative cases on some of its erring officials. PhilHealth Spokesperson Dr. Shirley Domingo in statement said that a regional vice-president is facing 12 counts of administrative offense of gross neglect of duty for approving unlawful claims filed by a former PhilHealth employee. Domingo added that another regional vice-president "has been recently charge and is up for suspension, " also due to gross neglect of duty because of "consistent poor performance that spanned at least three years." "The official concerned is being investigated for his region's inefficiency that left many hospitals complaining about delayed payments for their claims," said Domingo. Moreover, Domingo said that another official was charged, "who has allowed his personnel to receive salaries for years without submitting daily time records." Domingo said that investigations are being conducted and several others are currently being investigated over various allegations. "The PhilHealth board has vowed to institute reforms and do everything in its power to quash this so-called mafia that persistently defy reforms, and challenge needed officer reassignments designed to improve performance and to avert familiarity that breeds corruption," said Domingo.
