BALANGA CITY, Bataan — Governor Enrique Garcia revealed yesterday that the provincial government has released P5.8 million for livelihood programs to benefit the Aeta groups who received recently titles to the land they occupy in the province. Garcia said through the help of the National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP), 10 tribal communities will be given titles to 21,000 hectares of land. The biggest of this is located in Dinalupihan town covering 7,500 hectares; followed by 5,500 hectares in Bagac town; 4,500 hectares in Balanga City; and 3,500 hectares in Orani town. (Mar T. P12-M SATELLITE CAMPUS TO RISE

PORAC, Pampanga — A two-storey building worth P12 million will rise and serve as the satellite campus of the Don Honorio Ventura Technical State University (DHVTSU) in this town. This was disclosed on Thursday by Mayor Condralito dela Cruz who said the project is timely because a bigger number of enrollees is expected this June. “The classrooms are insufficient and limited. It is fortunate that the Provincial Engineering Office and Gov. (Lilia) Pineda are supportive of this project,” Dela Cruz said. (Franco G. Regala)

FEEDING KIDS

SAN PEDRO, Laguna — Around 300 students from public schools and children in the neighborhood of Barangay Cuyab benefited from the feeding program organized by the San Pedro Police Station and the Laguna Thursday Civic Club (LTCC) here yesterday morning. Supt. Chito Bersaluna, San Pedro police chief, supervised the distribution of food and drinks to some 200 Grade 1 pupils of Cuyab Elementary School and about 100 other children at the covered court. Bersaluna said the feeding program in partnership with different sectors and aimed to serve the community in combating malnutrition among children. (Ferdinand F. Castro)

ILAGAN CITY V.M. TAKES OVER

ILAGAN CITY, Isabela — Vice Mayor Jolly Taberner was recently sworn in as mayor of Maconacon town taking the place of slain Mayor Erlinda Domingo. Taberner and senior council member Rolly Quebral took their oath of office as mayor and vice-mayor respectively before Gov. Faustino G. Dy III at the provincial capitol on February 6. The succession is mandated by Republic Act No. 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1991. Taberner vowed to continue the programs, projects, and activities begun by Domingo. (PIA)

VOLUNTEERISM

ANGONO, Rizal — The act of volunteerism of the residents in this “Art Capital of the

Country” is always highlighted whenever there are activities in this municipality. This was shown recently by volunteer street sweepers and traffic enforcers who painstakingly go from one street and road to another to either clean the streets or direct the flow of traffic during major occasions here. During a motorcade of the Philippine Red Cross in this town recently, volunteer traffic enforcers were instrumental in the smooth flow of vehicular traffic that resulted in the success of the activity which aims to create awareness on volunteerism. Mayor Gerardo Calderon lauded the 1,500 volunteers composed of street sweepers and traffic enforcers, local government workers, barangay and municipal health workers for their selfless act. (Nel B.
