Cavite's 8th District declared 'drug-cleared'

By Anthony Giron TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and other concerned authorities have declared the 8th District of Cavite as “drug-cleared.” (MANILA BULLETIN) Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (MANILA BULLETIN) The province's 8th District is comprised of the Tagaytay City and the municipalities of Alfonso, General Emilio Aguinaldo (also called Bailen), Magallanes, Maragondon, Mendez-Nuñez, Naic, and Ternate. It was the first time that a district in Cavite had been declared “drug-cleared” by the monitoring PDEA, Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Department of the Interior and the Local Government (DILG). Eighth District Representative Abraham N. Tolentino was elated by the declaration as he cited that it was proof of the unified actions of the mayors, other officials, residents, and the police in enforcing peace and order in their respective areas. Tagaytay, a prime tourist destination, and neighboring Mendez-Nuñez were the first city and municipality that were declared “drug-cleared” in Cavite early last year. The district declaration was announced by Chief Inspector Jonathan Abuel Asnan, the chief of the Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) Operations Branch and Plans and Safety Management Unit, during the recent Second Joint Quarterly Meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council and the Anti-Drug Abuse Council held at the Sherwood Hills and Country Club in Trece Martires City. Asnan also announced the municipalities of Amadeo and Indang, both in Cavite's 7th District, as also “drug-cleared.” The officer made the declaration as he reported the peace and order situation in Cavite and the crime statistics and the police's actions against drugs, loose firearms, and other illegal activities in the turf. To sum it all, Cavite now has one city and nine municipalities with the “drug-cleared” tag since President Duterte declared war on drugs upon his assumption in the office on July 1, 2016. The joint council meeting was attended by DILG Regional Director Manuel Gotis, DILG-Cavite Director Eloiza G. Rozul, former Governor Jesus Crispin C. Remulla, Cavite PPO Director William M. Segun, PDEA Agent Billy Viray, and other officials. The meeting also cited the Cavite Provincial Audit Team (CPAT) that conducted the 2018 Peace and Order Councils Performance Audit. Awards for the Top Performing and Functional City and Municipal Peace and Order Councils (C/MPOCs), The CPAT announced that the top performing local government units (LGUs) for the year as Mendez-Nuñez, the municipalities of Carmona and Noveleta and Imus District and Cavite City in different categories.
