Singers test the network’s tolerance level on the dress code

When we heard that a memo was sent to the attendees of the Grammy Awards, (requirements including to “avoid sheer see-through clothing that could possibly expose female breast nipples”) we knew we were in for a show at the red carpet gala.

Nothing could keep the world’s hottest singers from owning the spotlight at the recent Grammy Awards.  Sure, there were a bunch who respected the network’s (CBS) request, but there were a lot who worked around the new ruling, while others just didn’t care.  After all, who would dare stop an artist from gracing the music awards?

Check out who among the singers came dressed accordingly, and who were the defiant ones:

Rhianna was still a showstopper in this flowing red gown by Alaia.  The sheer panels were a great execution for the singer to exude subtle sexiness.  Mid-part hair with sexy waves and matte red lips added just the right oomph!

All eyes were on Katy Perry (her cleavage, to be exact) in this key-hole sea foam dress by Gucci.  We adored her super-lined eyes and nude lips, but wished she had a more playful up ‘do to highlight her embellished neckline.

Taylor Swift never fails to look serenely glamorous.  We’re loving this electric-pleated long gown with silver accents by J. Mendel.  Braided headband and bangs, plus sweet pale pink lips and lined eyes are becoming for this Troubled singer.

Alicia Keys sported this leather banded ensemble by Alaia.  She stayed classic in red pops via lips and nails, but the mutated serpentine pleated hemline didn’t do wonders for the dress though.

Adele’s Valentino dress was both loved and hated by the fashion world, but we felt that she looked blooming in this pretty waist-cut number. The floral pumps are a sweet touch, too!  She kept her hair in an up ‘do, eyes are lined with nude lips that are must accents to a “busy” dress.

Jennifer Lopez showed off her sexy gams with a one-shoulder dress by Anthony Vaccarello, but we think a classier approach would have been to cover her legs though.  Good thing her hair and makeup has always been sophisticated vis-à-vis her ensemble—whew!

Florence Welch wore a shimmery green, custom-made Givenchy gown with amphibian-like accents that was the talk of the town, but fashion critics all over agree that the awards night calls for a more sophisticated option.  Her slightly unkempt hair and wine-colored lips that worked with her gown of choice were her saving grace.

Beyonce proved to be a good girl in this retro-inspired jumpsuit, a refreshing piece by Osman.  Cat-lined eyes, matte red lips and mid-part pony hair are reminiscent of her “Single Ladies” video.

Nicole Kidman came in a sheer lace number by Vera Wang.  Forest green nail polish added just the right punch to this opulent dress.  Her straight shoulder-length hair added a casual vibe, but we hoped she chose a more pinkish hue for her lips.  The lavender tint just made her looked pale and old!

Kelly Rowland picked a stunning black Georges Chakra couture dress that showed off just enough skin via strategically-placed cutouts.  Clean hair and makeup were the perfect accents to this sleek bold gown.
