Food, specifically lechon, and festivities will perk up La Loma in Quezon City where the annual Lechon Festival will unfold today.
Quezon City Tourism Affairs Department head Divina Pascua said that the La Loma Lechon Festival is open to all Quezon City and non-Quezon City residents.
According to Pascua, this year’s festivities will include culinary competition using lechon as the main ingredient, street dance competition, lechon float parade, “Salu-Salo sa Kalye” boodle fight, the grand procession of their patron, Nuestra Señora de Salvacion, as well as a fireworks display.
“Everyone is welcome to visit and join the La Loma Lechon Festival. Even those from the provinces, they can join us here in Quezon City,” Pascua said.
Quezon City’s La Loma district was tagged as the “Lechon Capital” of the Philippines because of the numerous lechon restaurants and outlets.
Lechon, which was one of the most popular Filipino dishes, is roasted pig characterized by its crispy skin and juicy meat.
Meanwhile, president of the Loma Lechoneros, William Chua said that his group is thankful for the support it got from the local government.
“We are happy that Quezon City supports our Lechon Festival. Through this initiative, the festival became more colorul and happier. We are inviting all to visit La Loma and taste all the lechon here,” Chua said.
