91,000 still remain in evacuation centers

More than two weeks after the onslaught of typhoon “Ulysses,” over 22,700 families or some 91,000 persons continue to seek refuge in evacuation centers, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) disclosed Saturday.

The DSWD Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center said as of 6 a.m. Saturday, around 22, 736 families or 91, 420 persons remain in 432 evacuation centers from the eight affected regions, including Metro Manila.

It reported that a total of 9, 638 families or 40, 111 persons opted to stay with their relatives and or friends.

The DSWD said the number of families affected by Ulysses had reached 1, 136, 660 or 4, 662, 850 persons. They hail from 6, 834 barangays in National Capital Region (NCR), Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

The DSWD, local government units (LGUs), non-government organizations, and private sector have provided over P158.18-million worth of assistance to the affected families.

DROMIC said 138, 908 houses were damaged by Ulysses, 17, 837 of which were totally damaged and 121, 071 were partially damaged.
