CAF Training

CATARMAN, Northern Samar (PNA) - The National Statistics Office in Northern Samar has been conducting in various towns its 4th Level Training on the 2012 Census on Agriculture and Fisheries or CAF. Euterio A. Llevado Jr., NSO Provincial Statistics Officer Euterio A. Llevado Jr. said the training is a six-day activity divided into two schedules. The first was done February 11-16 in Allen, Bobon, Catarman, Laoang, Las Navas, Lope De Vega, Mondragon, Pambujan, San Roque and Silvino Lobos towns and the second, which started last Feb. 18, will go on until Saturday, Feb. 23 in Biri, Capul, Catubig, Gamay, Lapinig, Palapag, Mapanas, San Antonio, San Jose and San Vicente towns.

YOUTH PARTICIPATION

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — The National Youth Commission is urging the youth in the region to participate in local and national midterm elections by casting their vote on May 13.  “The NYC would like to invite the youth in Region 6 (Western Visayas) to participate in the May 13 elections because people power is not just about “ibagsak, kasi ngayon wala tayong ibabagsak, wala na ang diktatoryang ibabagsak (vanquish, because now there is no more Marcos dictatorship for us to bring down), people power now is more on protecting and upholding our democracy,” said NYC Commissioner-Visayas, Erwin Andaya.

BUPB ACTIVITY

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Negros Oriental recently gathered local governments and civil society organizations (CSOs) here to draw up priority projects in an activity dubbed, “Bottom-up Planning and Budgeting (BuPB).” DILG-NegOr provincial director Farah Gentuya said the assemblies are an offshoot of the regional BuPB orientation participated in by 25 field officers of the province in Iloilo City.

KIDS BRIEFED

ORMOC CITY, Leyte (PIA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Leyte recently had Grade III pupils from Saint Ann’s Play School as “guests” in its office to learn what the agency does for the country. In terms that could be understood by school-kids, the agency basically explained that infrastructure building, what it mainly does, is part of nation building. The DPWH visit was part of the school kids’ educational field trip around Ormoc aimed at giving them experience and for them to appreciate the local DPWH office’s role relative to nation-building.

RECORD-BREAKING PERFORMANCE 

CATARMAN, Northern Samar (PNA) — The College of Nursing of the biggest state university in Region 8, University of Eastern Philippines, is in high spirits after posting its record-breaking performance in the Nursing Licensure Examination (NLE) held last December 2012 with the highest ever passing percentage of 89.4 percent for first time takers as against the national passing rate of 34.45 percent. UEP-CN Dean Maria Linda S. Agus said she and the clinical instructors are extremely pleased with the newly-registered nurses’ NLE performance and that record is a “product of collective hard work and self-determination towards excellence along with the support the UEP administration headed by its president, Atty. Mar P. De Asis.
