Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is ready to assist with the expected repatriation of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from the Middle East, following government’s move to either bring them home or transfer them to safer grounds outside of Iraq.

Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Ed Monreal said, “We will support government efforts the best we can.
“We shall provide holding areas where OFWs can be processed and given briefings. We are also ready to deploy our medical team to the holding areas for those who may need medical help upon arrival. We shall also distribute Malasakit kits to our OFWs.”
MIAA is part of the inter-agency repatriation team and was highly involved in previous mass repatriations undertaken by the Philippine government.
Monreal also said they are working closely with the Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Foreign Affairs, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, and in this case with the Office of the Special Envoy to the Middle East.
Following rising tension in the Middle East after the death of top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani in Baghdad in a targeted US drone strike, the Philippine government decided to evacuate or repatriate all Filipinos from the conflict-ridden areas.
