BACOLOD CITY – Sixteen persons were injured and 29 houses were destroyed in a fire in Purok Magnolia, Barangay 7 here on Thursday, July 6.

(Photo courtesy of Chamber Volunteer Fire Brigade) The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Bacolod said the blaze broke out from the house of a certain Richard Benjamen at around 11 p.m. The fire reached third alarm and 66 families were affected and are temporarily sheltered at the barangay day-care center The fire was under control at 12:21 a.m. on Friday, July 7, and declared fire out at 1:36 a.m. Damage to property was estimated at P350,000. Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire. Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez went to the area to monitor the situation of the fire victims. The city government has provided initial assistance to affected households.
