TACLOBAN CITY – The repair of the biggest sports arena in the province of Leyte is now underway, according to a report from the office of the Leyte provincial governor.

Leyte Gov. Leopoldo Dominico Petilla told the Manila Bulletin more than P70 million is allotted for the undergoing major repair and rehabilitation of the Leyte Sports Development Center (LSDC), and being funded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC).
Petilla said the rehabilitation works of the LSDC also known as Leyte Grandstand is expected to be completed at the middle of this year.
Petilla said the LSDC will be used again in some cultural, religious and other government as well as private activities upon the completion of the rehabilitation of the facility
The governor said the LSDC has been the site and venue of the annual fiesta celebration of this city, cultural competition of the Pintados-Kasadyaan Festivals of Festival, the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) Meet, the Palarong Pambansa in 2009 and other big events in the province.
The governor added that the LSDC, already damaged by Yolanda served as the command center by the NDRRMC, the United Nations agencies to include the UNOCHA (United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs), and other government agencies, in the rehabilitation and relief operations after Eastern Visayas was devastated by super Typhoon Yolanda on November 8, 2013.
