Bureau Of Customs (BOC) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) seized 1.9 kilos of assorted solid gold items intercepted Friday night.
The said item were placed in a carton box and wrapped with transparent plastic and were carried by a Chinese national.
Customs officials at the departure area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport terminal 2 last Friday afternoon held temporarily some 1.9 kilos of gold composed of 9 gold coins (with design) 1 Elizabeth ll -$100 dollars gold coin, 4 gold bars (small and big) and 6 god bracelets held from two Chinese police who escorted their 8 deported Chinese national who are involved in the illegal online gambling in the country. Customs on-duty supervisor Charlon Tejada at the NAIA Terminal 2 said a Customs Held Baggage Receipt (HBR) was issued to Chinese police officers Yang Jie and Shi Senlin to secure clearance/permit from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) before they could bring out the gold intercepted from Chinese deportees.
The Chinese police escorted 8 Chinese Nationals arrested by Bureau Of Immigration for alleged illegal gambling in the country. One of the deportees is the owner of the gold items.
Tejada said the gold items were seen at the initial security X-ray manned by members of the Office of Transportation Security at the departure area of NAIA terminal 2 and alerted the customs duty examiner.
District collector Mimel Talusan said the 1.9 kilos of gold composed of 9 gold coins (with different animal design) one piece of Elizabeth ll, a $100 dollar gold coin, 2 pieces of gold bars AU 999.9, 2 pieces of 500 CTF/999.9 gold bars and 6 pieces of gold bracelets were placed in a box and wrapped with plastic.
"We placed temporarily in our custody the 1.9 kilos of assorted gold items as we issued HBR to Chinese policemen to make arrangements or get permit from the BSP because we cannot release any items which are prohibited from taking out or bringing in goods or items in violation of Section 117 Regulated Importation and Exportation of CMTA RA 10863," Talusan added.
Tejada said according to Chinese police officers they found the 1.9 kilos of assorted gold from the Chinese deportees which they hid during the raid by Philippine government agents in line with the illegal online gambling.
The Chinese policemen claimed that the gold belonged to China and was brought to the Philippines illegally.
