Marlon Stockinger Officially A Lotus F1 Junior Driver
Formula race-car driver Marlon Stockinger, whose mother is Filipino, is now officially a Junior Driver for the prestigious Lotus F1 team. The distinction comes from his triumphant win during the 2012 GP3 Series held in Monaco late last year.
Dubbed as one of the distinguished “Young Ones” in the Lotus F1 team, Marlon proudly represents the Philippines alongside six other recruits from across the globe (Marco Sorensen of Denmark, Alex Fontana of Switzerland, Oscar Tunjo of Colombia, Esteban Ocon of France, Alexander Albon of Thailand, and Dorian Boccolacci of France).
They will be supported by the Lotus F1 Team in all areas of driving skills, physical fitness, health and nutrition, social and mental development, business ethics and principals, as well as PR training.
When asked about the significance of joining the Lotus F1 Team Junior Program, Marlon said: “It’s a great feeling to be associated with such a prestigious team. If you look back through the years as Benetton and Renault you can see that this team knows how to win championships. So, to be surrounded by that heritage is a big honor for me. I really want to make the most of it and am looking forward to wearing the team colors with pride.”
Marlon will take a huge step this year as he competes in the World Series by Renault, a challenge that he vows to truly work hard for to build a strong platform and progress through the ranks.
Lotus F1 Team Principal Eric Boullier said: “Motorsport can be very daunting for young drivers, particularly everything that occurs away from the track, so we hope to give our drivers the very best preparation possible for their future careers.”
Marlon and the rest of the Lotus F1 Team will treat Filipino motorsport fans with a Lotus F1 Roadshow on May 3-5 on the streets of Manila.
Marlon will have the unique privilege of being the official driver of the Lotus F1 car that will be flown in, another honor not only for him.
It will be a highlight for a lot of Filipinos who dream of one day making it big internationally and proudly representing the country as a car racing champion.
It could only get bigger and better for Marlon from here. With a solid team such as the Lotus F1 behind him, Marlon shows no signs of stopping.
