ORMOC CITY — Fourteen construction workers have been confirmed dead in the Leyte landslide that occurred last March 1, after the body of the last missing victim was found early yesterday, a military report said.

Colonel Rafael Valencia, commanding officer of the 802nd Brigade, based here, said that the retrieval of the body of the last missing victim brought the landslide casualties to 14.

Valencia disclosed that there were 45 construction workers when the incident happened at the Leyte Geothermal Production Field-Energy Development Corporation in Kananga, Leyte, in the morning of March 1.

Leyte Governor Ma. Mimietta Bagulaya visited the geothermal complex of Energy Development Corp. (EDC) in Leyte on Tuesday morning to meet with the families of landslide victims.

Bagulaya also met with EDC President Richard Tantoco and other officials of the Lopez-led geothermal company and asked for a briefing regarding the accident.

Tantoco assured the governor that the EDC’s workers and the volunteers, including government soldiers, are working tirelessly to help the victims, and their families.
