Schools Connect To Knowledge Channel
Students in 41 public elementary and high schools will soon be learning math, science, Filipino, English, and social studies from educational modules developed by the Knowledge Channel Foundation.
Through the “Connect-A-School Project” led by AES Philippines Foundation (APF) with select Electric Cooperative (EC) partners, and in collaboration with the Knowledge Channel Foundation (KCF), 41 public high schools and elementary schools within the franchise areas of the Pampanga I Electric Cooperative, San Jose City Electric Cooperative and La Union Electric Cooperative will connected to facilities like the Internet and cable television to aid in the education of students.
As partner, KCF will share the latest training modules that include over 800 educational modules designed for ease and convenience of both students and teachers.
To maximize the efficacy of the program, teachers and school heads also underwent training. APF provided the necessary equipment to make the training sessions possible.
According to APF vice president Kim de Leon, extending education-focused programs to communities of customers is a major thrust of the group.
“We consider the member-consumer of our partner electric cooperatives as one of our own communities so we are very much excited to share this program with them,” she said.
In addition to the Connect-a-School Project, De Leon said that APF also supports their partner-ECs in providing the infrastructure needs of the communities such as classrooms, school buildings, multi-purpose halls, and day care centers.
De Leon said the APF also donated hundreds of desktop computers, along with printers, tables and chairs.
“We always seek to contribute to moving forward the energy industry and we believe that one way of doing this is by empowering our electric cooperative partners through corporate social responsibility,” she said.
“Through knowledge and value-sharing, we hope to achieve this and thereby become key contributors to the social development of our communities,” she said.
