Under the theme “Save the Seas,” the competition will be hosted by the Muntinlupa City government and will be held from Dec. 15 to 18 at the De La Salle Santiago Zobel School (DLSZ) in Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa. About 1,200 students are expected to join the contest.
This is the first time that the Philippines will host the IRO since it started in South Korea in 1999. Other countries and territories which previously hosted the contest were China, Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, US and Singapore.
In preparation for the contest, the preliminary Summer Sumo Games and Youth Robotics Convention were held at DLSZ on June 16. A total of 40 participants joined the games and experienced real IRO challenges in the Creative Category, Mission Challenge, Robot Farming (Humanoid) and Robot in Movie.
IRO organizer Data Science and Technology Corporation’s president Anthony Gabitan thanked Muntinlupa for hosting the contest.
“I envision that each student in the Philippines will become a productive innovator and inventor who will put Philippines in the center of global progress,” he said.
Also present at the preliminary event were IRO secretary general Young Soo Park, IRO exec Euy Yeoung Lee, Muntinlupa deputy administrator RJ Smith (representing Mayor Jaime Fresnedi) and DLSZ president Bro. Bernard Oca.
