Manila Bulletin, Balita Win Best Newspaper Awards

The Manila Bulletin won its third consecutive Best Newspaper in English award at the 11th Gawad Tanglaw Awards rites held Thursday evening at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran – Calamba, Laguna.

The award was received by Manila Bulletin Publisher and President Atty. Hermogenes P. Pobre.

Balita, Manila Bulletin’s sister tabloid publication in Filipino language, was elevated to the Gawad Tanglaw Hall Of Fame as it won the Best Newspaper In Filipino award for the fifth consecutive year. The Balita editorial team, led by its Editor Aris Ilagan, received the award.

Balita’s Entertainment Editor Dindo M. Balares was also conferred his second Best Entertainment Columnist award.

Manila Bulletin Entertainment Editor Crispina Martinez Belen was given a Gawad Tanglaw Sining sa Panulat recognition.

Other Gawad Tanglaw Hall of Famers are DZMM for Best AM Station, “Umagang Kay Ganda” (Best Morning Show), “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (Best Drama Anthology), Vicky Morales (Best TV News Anchor), and Dolly Anne Carvajal (Best Entertainment Columnist).

Cristy Fermin, Ricky Gallardo, and Baby Gil were also named Best Entertainment Columnists for this year.

Eddie Ilarde and German Moreno were awarded the Gawad Tanglaw sa Sining ng Radyo and Gawad Tanglaw sa Sining ng Telebisyon, respectively.

An organization of noted members of the academe, Gawad Tanglaw, or the Gawad Tagapuring mga Akademisyan ng Aninong Gamagalaw, has been honoring outstanding achievements in print, television, radio, and film every year since 2002.
