Abby Cruz puts her heart and soul in every work she does.

When Abby was invited to compete at the recently concluded 3rd Asian Supermodel Competition in Guangxi, China, she gave her best shot.

Abby, Rhian Ramos, Rhea Nakpil, Stephanie Henares and Arci Muñoz were sent to China after only a two-week notice.

"It was really biglaan. Pero buti na lang I have been going to the gym, doing Pilates and was attending my new interest which was Pole Dancing," shared Abby during their send-off press conference. "It was really a blessing in disguise that I was doing those things. So, somehow that made me ready."

Abby said that contrary to what other people think of Pole Dancing as being sleazy and dirty, it’s dance she’s willing to work on and perfect.

"Pole Dancing is one of my hobbies. Bago ko pa lang ginagawa. More than a month pa lang and it’s fun...it’s for fitness. You dance and you have fun," smiled Abby.

Standing only 5’6-1/2", she was also prepared to go against taller models from all parts of Asia especially China.

"I was chosen to participate in this competition probably because I was also in Bb. Pilipinas and I have the experience," said Abby.

She added that they already knew that Chinese models are really tall but that didn’t scare them. "We were there to enjoy and to make friends with other participants from other countries. It was also more of a cultural exchange than a competition," she related.

The 3rd Asian Supermodel Competition won for the GMA Artist Center team four awards — Ms. Vitality for Rhian Ramos and Ms. International Friendship for Arci Muñoz. Rhian. Together with Stephanie Henares, made it to the Top Ten Super Model Awards.

Aside from her China stint, Abby is also the latest addition to GMA Artist Center. "I’m super new with GMAAC. I signed-up with them because it was a once in a lifetime opportunity so I grabbed it," related Abby.

Her biggest break to date was being in the now defunct action-drama-series "Lupin" where she co-starred with Richard Gutierrez.

She thanked GMA Network’s VP Wilma Galvante and talent manager Annabelle Rama who discovered her during her Bb. Pilipinas stint for her foray into showbiz.

"Hinahanap ko pa po kung saan ako nababagay. Kung ano man ang ibigay sa akin pag-aaralan and pagbubutihan ko po palagi," Abby said, adding that she won’t leave modeling.

Abby is doubly happy these days because her boyfriend Paolo Bediones is the host of the first season of "Survivor Philippines."

"I encouraged him. It wasn’t hard-sell. When we first met sabi ko invite kita sa church at sabi niya sige. And he liked it...The Lord really changed him. Well, before he would say that he was a conceited, arrogant and self-centered guy. Right now he is super the opposite," she said.

At the moment, Abby is also helping Paolo with his production company. At present, their production house is in the works with Singaporean partners. Their goal is to produce movies in the Philippines.

The public will see more of Abby Cruz because she is one of GMA Artist Center’s stars ON THE RISE!
