Eleven-year-old Miles Ocampo already knew that her calling was in show business at an early age.

Back then, she was already fascinated with the idea of watching herself on television. She then convinced her parents to let her audition for TV commercials which eventually paved the way for her showbiz career.

"I was discovered because of my Bibbo Hotdog commercial. Pagkatapos po nag-guest na ako sa ‘Magandang Tanghali Bayan’ and ‘Teysi.’ Sumasayaw lang po ako with other kids," she recalled smiling. Miles was just six years old then but she has already appeared in numerous TV commercials like Sunkist, Zesto and Zest bath soap.

Her first big break in showbiz came via a role in "Mangarap Ka" with Piolo Pascual and Angelica Panganiban where she played a tomboy. She made a mark in that soap opera because she fooled viewers and even some of the production crew that she was a boy with her short boy’s cut hairdo and the cap she wore.

"Yung audio man nga po tuwing kinakabitan ako ng lapel microphone tinatanong kung bakit parang panty style ang suot kong brief," she giggled. According to her, it was only the director who knew "he" was really a girl. That was the reason she was often asked on the set if "he" was gay. And even when they have tapings in Quiapo, girls would approach and tell her they have a crush on "him," not knowing she’s a girl! "Nakakatawa talaga kasi akala nila lalaki ako. Nang na-reveal na babae po ako and I started wearing hair clips, sinasabi naman nila na bakla pala ako," she grinned.

After "Mangarap Ka," she became the sister of Maja Salvador in "Spirits." She then became part of "Goin’ Bulilit" and "Mga Anghel na Walang Langit." In the movies, she has appeared in "I’ve Fallen For You."

"Sa taping po ng ‘Goin’ Bulilit’ may mga pumunta from ‘Mga Anghel na Walang Langit.’ Nagulat kami na after one week binigyan na kami ng schedule ng taping. Kasama na pala kami dun," she remembered.

Having a happy childhood, she shared that she prepared for the said drama series by memorizing her lines well and listening to her director’s instructions. Miles played one of the children in the show who experienced cruelty from their parents and people around them.

So what does she like about showbiz now?

"I get excited po kapag may taping po kami. Natutuwa rin ako na marami po akong nakikilalang mga bagong kaibigan. I’m also learning a lot from my experience. Yung pera ko naman po nasa bangko ko lang po," she replied. "Lalo ko pong nahasa ang acting ko. Tapos natutunan kong makihalubilo with different people."

If she is working hard in showbiz, Miles pointed out that it’s because she doesn’t want to waste the opportunity given her. She also wants to accomplish a lot with her projects.

"Gusto ko pong maging isang Sharon Cuneta balang araw," shared Miles of her goal in showbiz. "Mahusay po siyang artista and mabait pa po siya and sikat. Idolo ko rin po si Sarah Geronimo."

The irony of being inspired by the singers she mentioned above was that she doesn’t sing. She attributes it to having a hoarse voice. She’d rather dance than sing, revealed Miles. She is also one of the few child actresses who are in showbiz for their passion and not as a bread winner.

Her parents have a small business. They sell toys and accessories in different schools during fairs.

In fact she has also invested some of her money in real estate. "Binili na po namin yung bahay sa tabi ng lola ko. Kasi sabi ni Mommy kung sakali na wala na ako sa showbiz, makikita ko pa rin kung saan napunta ang pera ko. Bumili rin po kami ng sasakyan para po sa paghatid sa mga tapings ko po," she said.

Though she has already a busy schedule in showbiz. Miles is not shelving her academic life. She is an incoming 6th Grader in School of St. Anthony. And she plans to finish high school and then college and hopefully fulfills her dream of becoming a flight attendant someday. (She wants to become a flight attendant because she wants to travel with her parents abroad someday.)

One of the original casts of "Goin’ Bulilit," Miles said that this is one show she feels that she’s just playing around because they are always having fun.

As a teen actress, Miles said that her mom’s advice is always in her heart that is to be serious with work and to keep her two feet on the ground. She doesn’t even think of showbiz as a competition against other child actors especially in "Goin’ Bulilit." More than co-actors, she can say that they are sisters and brothers because of their bonding. One of her memorable bonding experience was when "Goin’ Bulilit" went to Hong Kong recently.

At the moment, Miles Ocampo is busy filming a new movie where she plays sister to Sarah Geronimo. She will also be in "Utoy" with Makisig Morales and Dolphy. She plays a "kontrabida" role and a trying-hard English speaking teen. So what was her birthday wish? She turned 11 years old last May 1.

"Gusto ko lang po marami pang projects sana and good health for me and my family," she smiled.

Driven to walk more miles for her acting career, Miles Ocampo is a teen actress ON THE RISE!
