Authorities seize P500,000 worth of dynamited fish
Authorities seized P500,000-worth of dynamited fish on board a cargo truck in Mandaue City on its way to a fish market in Cebu City.
According to Joebert Sorsano of Cebu Provincial Anti-Illegal Fishing Task Force (CPAIFTF), the truck contained 30 tubs of first-class fish. Each tub weighed 60 kilos.
The fish were coming from neighboring islands of Mindanao, he added. Some of the fish were lapu-lapu, rompi, mam-sa, pakol, and bagis.
The apprehension took place after CPAIFTF received a tip about illegal transportation of dynamited fish in the area, stated task force’s spot report.
A market denial was then conducted by CPAIFTF with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, maritime police, and provincial agriculture along Tribunal Street in Mandaue City.
As approved by Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III, the confiscated fish will be sent to various charitable institutions, such as the Missionaries of Charity and Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center.
