Azkals eye big win vs India
Game Today (Siliguri, India)
9 p.m. – India vs Philippines
The Philippine Azkals look to end their overseas tour on a high note when they face India in an international friendly match today in Siliguri, India.
Stephan Schrock returns to action for the Azkals in the 9 p.m. encounter after missing last Saturday’s 4-0 loss to the fancied United Arab Emirates side in Abu Dhabi.
Goalkeeper Roland Muller could also rejoin the national side for their first meeting with the Indian side since last year’s AFC Challenge Cup in Kathmandu, Nepal where the Azkals won, 2-0.
The Azkals are eager to play a much-better game against India, compared to UAE where they were overwhelmed by the exquisite showing of a nation that currently competes in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
UAE is ranked 71st in the FIFA world rankings while the Azkals are at 137th.
Other players that are expected to start for the Azkals are Phil Younghusband, Patrick Reichelt, Rob Gier and Jeff Christiaens.
India finished runner-up in the South Asia Football Championship where it lost 2-0 to Afghanistan in the final held in Kathmandu last September.
Meanwhile, Azkals supporters are holding a donation drive for victims of Typhoon Yolanda tonight at Mercato Bonifacio Global City.
Organizers of the event, originally scheduled as a thanksgiving and viewing party for tonight’s match, are asking those who will attend to give donations in cash or in kind that will be given to typhoon victims.
