Butuan gears for 2015 APEC Summit
Butuan City – Local officials and employees, together with the Technical Working Group of the city government here started preparing for the 2015 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit to be held in the Philippines.
The city government, through Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante Jr., is one of the country’s local government units (LGUs) invited to speak before the 2015 APEC Summit as a transformed city.
To be presented in next year’s confab is this city’s 2020 Vision and Island of Good Governance.
He said the city officials are now preparing a detailed agenda before business community leaders and world government officials in making Butuan as the country’s “Premier Forest City” where the city government will place a university, a hotel, and restaurants/cafes in the forest, among others.
The city government is also preparing strategies to incorporate agriculture in its 2020 Vision, and to enroll some 18,000 identified poor families in the city to the 4Ps and PhilHealth, among others.
“All of this will be presented during the 2015 APEC,” said Amante, who is expected to deliver a speech during the summit.
Meanwhile, the Forest Festival, which is in line with the city’s Vision 2020 will start by August this year, where national, regional, and local officials are expected to attend the event, he said.
“Butuan City will soon fulfill its Vision 2020, and we are aiming to make our people economically stable while hitting to be more globally competitive in the years ahead,” said Amante.
