Cagayan placed under state of calamity

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (October 21, 2015) – - Local officials declared the province of Cagayan as under state of calamity due to floodings affecting 18 towns and a city due to Typhoon Lando.

Provincial Board Member Vilmer Viloria said Wednesday that the state of calamity declaration was approved during their session this morning.

Based on initial report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) today, Viloria said the partial estimated cost of damages to agriculture to include rice, corn and high value commercial crops (HVCC) was Php208.073 million.

At least 53, 000 hectares of plantation were reportedly damaged in which 44, 000 hectares as partially damaged and 9,000 hectares were totally damaged with 38,529 farmers affected.

As of press time, Viloria said the floodwaters started to subside with shining weather in the province.
