Cebu to host OCEAN 2014 Summit
Cebu is scheduled to host the three-day Open Collaboration with East Asia New Champions (OCEAN) 2014 Summit on May 23 to 25.
Cebu has been chosen by the World Economic Forum (WEF) to host the said event which is set to be held at the Movenpick Resort and Spa in Mactan.
Ocean 2014 is an extension of the WEF East Asia Regional Summit 2014 in Manila.
The event in Cebu will gather more than 200 leaders from the government, business, academe, arts and culture who will share strategies and solutions to attain a collaborative action.
The new champions of the WEF, a community that includes the Young Global Leaders (YGL), Global Shapers, Schwab Social Entrepreneurs in the Philippines, officially launched the three-day event last Monday at the Casino Español Cebu.
Ocean 2014 Summit Chairman Winston Damarillo said the event aims to engage global and local Filipino “change-makers” to come up with significant contribution to social and economic progress through networking and dialogue.
“To further fuel the momentum, Ocean 2014 aims to develop a framework for creating Innovation Zones, that promote a new class of businesses,” said Damarillo.
Damarillo who is also a YGL, and owner of one of the successful innovation companies in the Philippines serving the global clientele, said the summit will give an opportunity for Cebu and the Philippines to showcase its world-class leaders, as well as innovations.
“More than the talk on specific issues, the focus of the summit is to get something done as the discussions might involve the creation of new laws or change of policies,” he said.
Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III said he is pleased that the organizers have picked Cebu as this may put the province in the investor radar in Asia and in the world.
This is the first time that the WEF East Asia Regional Summit be held in Manila. WEF is a Geneva-based non-profit organization established in 1971.
