Donations for calamities
Two calamities came five days apart in October — Typhoon Santi hit north and central Luzon on Oct. 11, and the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that jolted Bohol and Cebu on Oct. 15. Both brought much destruction and left many victims.
Damage of Typhoon Santi was placed at P2.9 billion worth of properties, mostly crops. The Bohol earthquake, as of last count, caused about P1.6 billion in damages.
But that’s not counting the damaged historical churches, which have stood in Bohol for centuries. Lost landmarks of our heritage is a damage that can’t be replaced.
Many members of the car industry have donated cash to help the victims. Among them were Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) and Mitsubishi Motor Philippines (MMPC).
IPC donated a total of P1.5 million pesos — P500,000 to the GMA Kapuso Foundation for the victims of typhoon Santi; and P1 million through the ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya Foundation for Bohol, Timmy De Leon, IPC corporation communications manager, said.
MMPC turned over their donation of P500,000 to the Philippine National Red Cross recently. In the photo, the turnover of the donation to the Philippine Red Cross was made by Hikosaburo Shibata, MMPC president and CEO, and Junya Masuda, Executive Vice President, to Gov. Corazon de Leon of PNRC.
