Former Bb. Pilipinas beauties hopeful of bigger haul in 2014
Expectations are high for this year’s crop of Binibining Pilipinas titlists, with the pageant body marking its winningest year in 2013.
Even former Bb. Pilipinas titleholders are looking ahead, with Miss Tourism International 2005 Precious Lara Quigaman-Alcaraz encouraging the future representatives of the country to “aim higher” in global tilts even as they are coming off a bountiful year.
“Kadalasan kasi ’pag nanalo na tayo, feeling nung ibang girls na, nanalo tayo last year, wala nang chance manalo ngayon. (Sana) hindi ganun ’yung thinking,” Lara said on Wednesday, during the Binibining Pilipinas 2014 Official Press Presentation of its Top 40 candidates for Miss Universe at Sofitel Manila.
Lara, who is also an actress, joined the prestigious local pageant twice, going on to earn the Bb. Pilipinas-International title in 2005.
Appearing with Lara at the press presentation are Miss Universe 2010 4th Runner-Up Venus Raj and Miss Universe 2011 3rd Runner-Up Shamcey Supsup.
The presentation was hosted by Miss Universe 2013 3rd Runner-Up Ariella Arida, Miss Supranational 2013 Mutya Johanna Datul, and Miss Tourism International Top 10 finalist Cindy Miranda.
Venus, for her part, urged would-be delegates to free themselves from pressure and enjoy the experience.
“Kasi napakabilis ng international pageant. Hindi nila mamalayan tapos na pala ’yung beauty pageant. So kung pressure lahat ang mafi-feel mo, hindi ka na makakapag-enjoy. Kailangan mag-enjoy pa rin sila at the same time,” she explained.
Meanwhile, Shamcey pointed out that it is really up to the representatives “kung pano nila i-a-up pa ’yung performance nila” in international tilts.
The Top 40 candidates are in for a busy month leading to the home stretch of the 51st edition of the competition. They will participate in a fashion show on March 6, followed by the Parade of Beauties on March 22, and finally the Grand Coronation Night on March 30, to be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
This year’s Bb. Pilipinas coronation night will be extra special, with Miss Universe 2013 Maria Gabriela Isler of Venezuela sitting among pageant judges. Russian pop star Emin will also be attending as special performer.
Shamcey shared that Gabriela is also doing a charity event for “Yolanda” victims during her visit.
