Michael V. or Bitoy is back on TV5 -host “Killer Karaoke, Pinoy Naman” starting Nov. 16.

“Killer Karaoke” is a hit in the UK, USA, Russia, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Thailand, Argentina, Peru, Brazil, Ecuador and Mexico. The US version was acquired by TV5 and has been airing every Saturday since Sept. 14. With Bitoy hosting the show, he will give it a Pinoy twist and his own brand of comedy.

Here’s how it goes: While singing, the participant goes from one transparent cage to another where he encounters various kinds of harmful insects like scorpions or giant spiders or even a live fish jumping into his open mouth. He must not stop singing whatever the danger is in order to win a prize.

Is Bitoy leaving GMA-7 soon? “No” since he doesn’t have a contract with any network to begin with. With this setup, Bitoy explained that he has more freedom to exercise his creativity in that he must like a show and be part of its conceptualization and implementation before he agrees to do it.

Bitoy is still on GMA-7’s “Bubble Gang.”

In December, new reality show “CHInoy Star Ka Na” will come on stage to further strengthen the camaraderie between the Chinese and Filipino communities, as well as help develop new stars in the entertainment industry.

“I have many Chinoy friends and the traditional perception about them ay ‘puro business lang’ but in fact, some are really good in the performing arts,” said Alvin Kingson Tan, president of Fil-Chi Media Productions, Inc. or CHInoy TV during the press launch of “CHInoy Star Ka Na” held in Manila recently.

In celebration of its third anniversary, CHInoy TV, together with the Confucius Institute at the Ateneo de Manila University, its co-presenter in many events for the past three years, is working with Vehnee Saturno Music Training Center, Star Records, the Association of Chinese-Filipino Schools in the Philippines, and the Federation of Filipino Chinese Alumni Association, Inc. to present the first-of-its-kind singing reality search.

The competition is open to both Chinoys and non-Chinoys, ages 16 to 25 for the male category, and 14 to 23 for the female category, who can sing Mandarin, English and Filipino songs. Auditions will be held today, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. (registration starts at 10 a.m.) at the Lucky Chinatown Mall.

The Top 25 will be chosen during the audition and the Top 10 will be trained in singing, personality development, Mandarin, etc. for the subsequent rounds of the competition. The Top 5 will then enter the final round of competition on Jan. 31, 2014 (Chinese New Year’s Day). The winner will receive a recording contract from Star Records, as well as an original music composition courtesy of Vehnee Saturno, among other prizes.

“I’m very happy na maging big part of this singing contest kasi may mga songs po akong na-record in Cantonese and Mandarin… Napakasarap na being a Filipino, ’yung songs ko ay na-interpret na ng mga Chinese artists. Since maganda ang proyekto na ito, with all our hearts (in Vehnee Saturno Music Training Center), tutulong kami para maka-discover tayo ng Chinoy Star,” Saturno vowed.

Pre-registration is available through the CHInoy TV website (www.chinoy.tv). “CHInoy Star Ka Na” will premiere on Dec. 1 on CHInoy TV (Net25).
