Gary V celebrates 30th showbiz anniversary, gears up for 2014
For Gary Valenciano who is currently celebrating his 30-year anniversary in showbiz, 2013 proved to be a bountiful year.
Gary, who got a Hall Of Fame Award from the MTV Awards at age 40, and from several other award-giving bodies like the MYX Music Awards, Anak TV Seal, and FAMAS, kicked off his anniversary by renewing his contract with ABS-CBN. On TV, he remains one of the flagship artists of ABS-CBN’s top-rating noontime variety show “ASAP 19.” Gary was also named as official ambassador of the 20th anniversary of ABS-CBN’s The Filipino Channel (TFC).
In recording, Gary received recognitions from the 26th Awit Awards with his 12th Best Performance by a Male Recording Artist trophy, as well as the Best Ballad Recording trophy for his stirring rendition of “Walang Hanggan,” a song he produced and arranged for a phenomenal soap opera. His album “Gary V Sings Just For You” bagged the Best Engineered Recording award for his version of the standard classic “Send In The Clowns.” He also recorded “Pananagutan;” the official theme song of “Honesto” that is “Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala;” as well as “Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw” for the ABS-CBN teleseryes of Judy Ann Santos and Kris Aquino, respectively.
Gary toured Europe with son Paolo in concerts in Switzerland, Ireland, Wales, and Norway. In Abu Dhabi in November, Gary drew a mammoth crowd of 20,000 for the pre-show of Formula One, which surprised the British organizers of the international sporting event. He also sold out the Coral Springs Theater in Miami in December.
Locally, Gary treated his fans to the ultimate throwback musical event in “Tuesdays With Gary” at Teatrino that ran for an unprecedented 14 performances. Recently, Gary shared the spotlight with son Gab in the viral “Super Selfie” video on YouTube. The father-and-son tandem of Gary and Gab was featured on national TV in the US, most notably on “Good Morning America,” “RightThisMinute,” and various international online sites like Mashable, Buzz Feed and Yahoo! OMG! and even locally on “TV Patrol Weekend” and “The Ryzza Mae Show.” This video craze sweeping the world by storm now has over 1.2 million views on YouTube, not a surprising feat considering his nearly 1.7 million followers on Twitter.
In 2014, Gary is gearing up with the release of a brand-new inspirational CD, a trip to Tacloban as UNICEF’s National Ambassador, as well as a series of performances in the USA, Australia, Canada, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, and will culminate his 30th year with a major two-night concert at the Araneta Coliseum in April.
