Gloc-9 lords it over MYX Music Awards 2014
Mile-per-minute rapper Gloc-9 added another feather in his cap with his song “Magda,” which also features Rico Blanco, getting the lion’s share of trophies at the MYX Music Awards held Wednesday at the Samsung Hall of SM Aura, Taguig.
“Magda” won Favorite Music Video, Favorite Song, Favorite Urban Video and Favorite Collaboration.
The urban poet cites the sincerity of the song as among reasons for its success.
In an interview with Bulletin Entertainment, he shared how he came up wth the song: “Ito ay kanta na naisulat ko hindi dahil gusto kong gumawa ng kanta about a prostitute pero, naisulat ko ito dahil sa iniisip ko kung gaano kasakit sa isang tatay ang magkaroon ng anak na napunta sa ganitong trabaho, at ‘yun ‘yung drive ko kung bakit nasulat ko ‘yung ‘Magda.’”
Despite his continued success, Gloc-9 maintained that his feet is still planted firmly on the ground, attesting, “Dahil alam ko na ito ay pahiram lang and hindi ito permanente at mawawala din ito lahat.”
At the very least, he is grateful for serving as inspiration to up-and-coming rappers, noting, “Natutuwa po ako at least nare-recognize na ‘yung music namin at nagkakaroon na ng other music.”
Having received multiple music awards prior from different award-giving bodies, Gloc-9 feels no pressure in winning more accolades in the future as “lagi kasing una ‘yung love ko for music, so kung ‘yun ang laging una, wala akong nakikitang conflict.”
The spotlight also fell on Parokya ni Edgar during awards night, with the band bagging the Favorite Group award and the MYX Magna Award, which honors their exemplary contribution to the industry.
“I didn’t expect it and for us to get something as prestigious as this… ‘yung mga nanalo nito mga talagang karespe-respeto,” Parokya ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda said.
The first band to receive the same plum was the Eraserheads in 2009; last year’s recipient was Broadway star Lea Salonga.
To mark the occasion, fellow artists’ Gloc-9, Ebe Dencel, Yeng Constantino and Rico Blanco, among others, regaled Chito and his bandmates with a medley of their hits.
“The highlight kasi is seeing other other artists singing our songs, the pleasure of watching them… in-enjoy ko lang talaga ‘yun, sobrang nakakatuwa how they presented it,” Chito admitted.
Abra, who raked in several honors at last year’s awards, was crowned Favorite MYX Celebrity VJ.
Yeng Constantino balled the Favorite Female Artist Award for the fourth year straight.
Sarah Geronimo, who also won several awards last year, bagged the Favorite Artist plum and Favorite Remake for “It Takes A Man And A Woman.”
