British Council Education program launches
Education Fair 2004, opens new Knowledge and Learning Centre

Perhaps the single biggest decision that you will make in life is opting to earn your qualification from overseas. This increases your career-prospects and ensures your future,” reads the Educational UK information sheet. And who wouldn't agree.

Now on its sixth year, the British Council holds it's annual UK Education Fair to be held at the

of a library.

Shangri-La Hotel on Feb. 14 and 15.  Twelve UK universities will send their admission officers to give expert advice about the opportunities that abound in their respective institutions.

The list of participating schools are Brooke House College, Cambridge Tutors College, concord College, St. Edmund's College, University of Birmingham, Cardiff University, University of Herdfordshire, Middle Sex University, University of Northumbria, Oxford Brookes University, University of Sunderland, Thames Valley University, and the University of Wales, Bangor.

“Some people find it hard to inquire on-line, through this fair, they can ask everything that they need to know directly to the representatives we've invited.  Also, visitors to the fair will learn more about studying in the UK via a series of seminars that run throughout the exhibition proper.  Topics ranging from student life in the UK, Postgraduate and Undergraduate Opportunities, as well as the cost of  UK education will be discussed,” says Susan Isorena-Arcega, British Council Philippines' Communications and Marketing assistant director.

UK education gives an internationally recognized qualification that is highly valued anywhere in the world.  But more than that, studying in UK will give an opportunity to experience new cultures, new customs and new ideas first-hand.

Indeed, the UK has remained the study destination that is more welcoming, more accommodating and more attuned to all the needs and ambitions of international students than the others.
“It is also a more affordable option.  The cost of studying in the UK can be considerably cheaper than that of the US,” Isorena-Arcega states.

Furthermore, the British Alumni Association (BAA) will spearhead the homecoming and recognition night on the last day of the event.  Everyone who studied in the UK; whether short courses, training, full courses, undergraduate or postgraduate programmes are invited to register.

KLC, FIRST POINT OF INFORMATION

After undergoing a massive makeover that took almost five months, the Knowledge and Learning Centre (KLC) is now ready to welcome members and visitors.  Like a butterfly coming out of its cocoon, people will definitely appreciate its transformation.  The colour scheme provides a conducive atmosphere for learning, yet the lines are funky enough to encourage creativity.

“The KLC is the place to discover the UK today.  Here you'll find all there is to know about studying and living in the UK.  We have the most updated collection of materials that will help you improve your professional skills as managers or as English language teachers,” enthuses William Gancia, KLC's manager.

Smaller yet much more lively.  What the center lack in size and number, is made up with substance and content.  Aside from our books and video collection, members can now access the best of UK online journals and resources free of charge.  From Ashridge to Emerald full-text journals, the most updated and celebrated innovations in business, ELT and sciences are now just a click away.

“Our services are further enhanced by a video-conferencing facility that the public can avail of at unbelievably low rates.  Now you can talk face to face with your tutor in the UK, or even set-up a videocon interview with your prospective employer!”

Truly the new KLC is a leap forward form the old humdrum concept of a library.  As one of the few libraries in the country that have seamlessly integrated information and communication technology in their operations, we pride ourselves as being a trend-setter in the age of digital libraries.
