The Philippines is raising high hopes of exporting within 18 months fresh mangoes to Hawaii and Guam from all Philippine regions as the government has pleaded with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the geographical expansion not only from mango seed weevil (MSW)-free Guimaras.


The country’s oil industry players, particularly the giants, will be summoned by the Department of Energy (DoE) to set on record their rationale for proposed shift to Mean of Platts Singapore (MOPS) as benchmark in pricing domestic pump prices.

The banking system’s exposure to the real estate industry as of September last year dipped 3.10 percent from R193 billion in 2002 to R187.71 billion, the central bank said over the weekend.


The peso closed Friday at a record low of P56.35 to the US dollar yesterday at the Philippine Dealing System of the Bankers Association of the Philippines from P56.20 the previous day. The weighted average rate depreciated to P56.323 from P56.18.
