Lacson assures protection for kin of slain Leyte mayor

EBU CITY — Presidential candidate Panfilo Lacson visited yesterday the wake of Hindang (Leyte) Mayor Roy Jumao-as here and assured the victim’s family that he would provide them protection.

Earlier, Lacson learned that  one of the suspects in the ambush-slaying of the mayor is a policeman.
Lacson, whose Cebu schedule did not include visiting the wake of Jumao-as and his son Jake,  went to the wake, saying he personally knows Jumao-as, a former  policeman, when he was still the chief of the Visayas command (now Police Regional Office 7).
He said that he was one of the people whom Jumao-as sought their advice before the former Cebu policeman joined politics by running for mayor in Hindang.
Lacson said he would provide appropriate security and protection to the mayor’s family who sought his help, noting that one of the suspects is a policeman identified as P01 Roque Bisnar.
Jumao-as and his son Jake were killed in an ambush near their residence on D. Jakosalem St., Cebu City last  week.
Meanwhile, thousands of Lacson’s supporters showed up on the third day yesterday of his Cebu sortie that saw him visit the different towns in the southern part of Cebu.
Lacson was warmly received by supporters in Talisay City and the towns of Naga, Moalboal, Carcar and Argao.
In Toledo City, Lacson met with members of NGOs and farmers group and assured them that he would act decisively  against criminals and corrupt government officials early on in his administration if elected president.
Before he went on his sortie in southern Cebu, Lacson spoke at the Presidentiables’ Forum organized by the  Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) in Cebu City.
Lacson said personal security is a major concern of businessmen and he is committed to restore justice and  law and order if elected president.
