Fire victims continue to get help

The needs of some 1,100 families affected by the fire that broke out at Maestranza in Intramuros at about past midnight Sunday, April 11 continue to be met by the Manila Department of Social Welfare headed by Dr. Jose Baranda. Relief operations started as soon as the fire was put out before seven Sunday morning.

This was bared Monday by Baranda as field personnel and social workers of the city’s social welfare department continue to provide for the basic needs of the fire victims, adding that the relief operations are still ongoing.

Tents have been set up at the evacuation site at the Muelle del Rio Linear Park along the south bank of the Pasig River just beside Maestranza to provide shelter for the fire victims and portable toilets have also been installed in the area.

Baranda said that his department also continues to provide foodstuffs as well as clothes to the residents affected by the fire. (RSV)
