Lions Int’l Dist. 301-D2 honors new members

For more than 80 years, the men and women of Lions Clubs International have never hesitated to get involved. Today Lions Club members from District 301-D2 celebrate the future of community service as they honor new members during Lions Worldwide Induction Day.

With ceremonies being held simultaneously around the world, the Lions Clubs International District 301-D2 will hold its induction ceremony at the District Fellowship Hall on April 17 at 2 p.m.

According to District Governor Leopoldo B. Santiago, Lions Worldwide Induction Day is significant for several reasons. “As we welcome our newest members, we feel that it is appropriate to share the pride of what being a member means and to underscore the importance of getting involved, helping our neighbors in need and building a closer community here in Quezon City and nearby towns, cities and provinces.’’

To celebrate Lions Worldwide Induction Day the Lions District 301-D2 has made a commitment to induct at least 150 new members to strengthen the volunteer force of our organization.

Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organization with nearly 1.4 million members representing more than 46,000 clubs in over 190 countries and regions.


Tanghalang Batingaw on stage

This month of the hearts, the Tanghalang Batingaw — the theater group of the Lyceum of the Philippines — will be open not just for Lyceum students but also to those from other schools.

From Apr. 27 to 28, Tanghalang Batingaw will go on stage for the play, “Pangarap sa Isang Gabi ng Gitnang Tag-Araw (A midsummer Nights Dream) of William Shakespeare at the Jose P. Laurel Hall of Freedom, Lyceum of the Philippines in Intramuros, Manila.

The said program, which will be presented in tagalog, is part of the 7th Seasonal Theater Presentation of Tanghalang Batingaw.

Organizers of the play said they decided to do the acts in Tagalog to allow the audience, mostly students, to relate to the works of Shakespeares and apply it in the Philippine settings and culture.

Production design will be provided by the students of College of St. Benilde while some of the costumes will be produced by the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

The Lyceum of the Philippines Dance Troupe will also participate in the said theater production.
